Vacuum Comparisons - How to Compare Vacuum Models
Published by: mike 2008-08-28
When you are shopping for vacuums it is important to not only take what other people have said about a particular model into consideration, but to also make your own vacuum comparisons. To do this you will need to look at several models in a variety of price ranges. As you look at the available models in your market you will want to compare their motor power, their filtration systems, their professional certifications, what accessories they include with the vacuum, what optional accessories are available to purchase, as well as what type of warranty the vacuum carries. The best vacuum model will offer the most features for the best price.

The first thing that you will need to look at during vacuum comparisons is how powerful the vacuum is. A model with a 12 Amp motor is a very powerful vacuum. This strength of motor is typically used in high end models, and generally you will pay more for this type of motor. If you are shopping on a tight budget you can get similar cleaning results from a 10 or 11 Amp motor. You should be careful when looking at vacuums that are priced below $50. These vacuums tend to have very week motors, and they aren't useful for picking up anything larger then dust.

The next thing that you will want to look at during vacuum comparisons is what type of filtration systems the vacuum cleaner uses. Older models will tend to use a simple foam filter/collection bag system. These systems aren't the best filtration systems on the block, but they are usually more affordable then HEPA filtration systems. Bag filters usually run about $2.99 for two bags. In addition to the bag filter you will also probably need to buy foam filters. Vacuums with HEPA filtration systems work better than the bag and foam filtration system, however, they are much more expensive to replace. The average HEPA filter replacement costs about $19.

The third thing that you should look at when selecting a vacuum is what accolades it has received. Look for certification from reputable vacuum or textile organizations that affirm that the vacuum is a quality machine. If you are interested in a machine that will be able to lower allergens in your home look for models recommended by the American Asthma Association, or other health related organizations.
